In Nepal, the pipal tree (Bodhi tree, ficus religiosa) is considered a sacred tree for both Hindus and Buddhists. It is the embodiment of the god Vishnu and according to legend, Buddha Sakyamuni attained enlightenment under a pipal tree in Bodhgaya, India. Almost every part of the tree is used as medicine in Nepal. It is said that the tree protects people from the evil eye and keeps away terrible dreams.
